# What do you actually write down after a bad set?

I’m trying to get better at not turning one rough set into a full personality review. If a set goes badly, what do you actually note afterwards while it’s still fresh? I’m thinking things like where I lost them, whether I rushed, which bits still worked — but I don’t want to end up doing a ten-page post-mortem every time five minutes goes weird.

I separate facts from the story I’m telling myself. Facts: bit two got nothing, I talked over a laugh, I sped up near the end. Story: I’m terrible and everyone hated me. Only the first list is useful tomorrow.

I had to give myself a three-line limit because otherwise I basically write a dissertation called Why The Audience Was Wrong. One thing that worked, one thing I’d change, one thing to test next time. Then I’m banned from editing the whole set at midnight.
